More information about women’s health physio

What can I expect during my session with a women’s health physiotherapist?

Our women’s health physio will always start with a complete assessment of your condition and will tailor a treatment plan in regards to your goal.

Your women’s health assessment will start with a discussion of your personal health history and the goal you want to achieve (restarting sports in a safe way, treating a specific condition or a simple check-up).

Once you have spoken with our women’s health physio about what is worrying you, the physical assessment will start.

The physiotherapist will check the integrity of your abdominal muscles, lumbar spine and pelvis. She will also check if you have any episiotomy scar or vaginal tear scar.

She will then check more precisely your pelvic floor muscles externally and internally and will test the contraction and endurance of each part of your pelvic muscle (left, right and deep layer) in order to feel which muscle or part of your pelvic muscles need to be strengthened or relaxed depending on the condition you are coming for. She will also look for any sign of incontinence, vaginal organ prolapse, unbalanced tone, weird sensation, tenderness or pain.

Once the result of your women’s health assessment has been discussed, our women’s health will propose you a tailored treatment plan including hand-on treatment that you will do with the physio and pelvic floor exercises that you will have to do at home between the sessions.

The intensity of the exercises will increase over the session until your pelvic muscles tone is right and well balanced
