What is cranial osteopathy? Osteopathy for baby

Cranial Osteopathy for babies & children is a gentle and non-invasive osteopathy technique that aids the body’s self-healing mechanism to relieve tensions, trauma and stresses in the body and the head of the baby that might have been caused during birth.

The different tensions created during labour can have an impact on a baby’s future health such as baby reflux, sleeping problem, stress, colic and other baby pathologies, which could be avoided by only a few sessions of cranial osteopathy after baby’s birth.

What Shall I expect from a Cranial Osteopathy Treatment?

A cranial osteopath can relieve baby’s compressions and tensions in a gentle, safe and effective manner.  After doing a thorough baby assessment, the cranial Osteopath would hold it and carefully and gently apply pressure on baby’s skull where necessary to encourage baby’s body to function as it should. Once the cranial osteopath has rebalanced all the different tensions, baby’s body will then readjust to the correct balance during the days following a cranial osteopathy session.

After a cranial osteopathy treatment, your baby will probably be very relaxed and will sleep well. On the contrary, some babies tend to have a lot of energy after cranial osteopathy, but this is usually followed by a good night’s sleep.

After about a week after the initial cranial osteopathy session, some tensions might reappear slightly (or not) that s why we advise a second cranial osteopathy session to finalise the treatment and check if all baby’s tensions have been released completly.

Why Cranial osteopathy after birth helps your baby to start his life on the good foot?

During labour, the baby’s head moves in specific directions while undergoing a lot of pressure from the contractions. The compressions of the skull are usually relieved naturally as the baby starts crying, however, this process might not be enough to relieve all the compressions, especially after a difficult birth, long labour, a caesarean section or forceps delivery. Our cranial osteopath will be able to release these tensions and avoid the baby having health issues due to these tensions.

Is cranial osteopathy safe?

As described above, Cranial Osteopathy is a gentle, soft and painless osteopathy treatment. It is then totally safe as long as performed by a trained cranial osteopath
