During pregnancy a woman’s body goes through a lot of changes, in order to create the right environment for the new life she is bringing into the world. The levels of the hormone relaxin rise during the pregnancy, relaxing the joints and softening the ligaments in order to make delivery easier. These changes, in combination with the extra weight can cause pain and discomfort such as lower back pain, pelvic pain, diastasis or incontinence. These issues can make it difficult to complete daily activities such as walking, sitting or climbing stairs and even completing easy tasks around the house.

However, if you are pregnant and you are experiencing any of these issues, you don’t have to just put up with it. Our London Physiotherapist can help relieve the pain and help you have a healthier and happier pregnancy.

If you are an Axa or Bupa patient, you cannot book online. Please call our office with your authorisation number.

If you cannot find an appointment which suits you or would like a home visit, call us or send us a message: we will do our best to find you a slot.

At Excellence Physiotherapy we offer Prenatal Care courses that will help you have a smoother and more comfortable pregnancy. Our Physiotherapists and Osteopath in London have years of experience working with pregnant women and after an initial consultation, they will advise you on your condition and how physiotherapy can help. They can treat you for the following:

  • Symphis pubis dysfunction (SPD), also called pelvic girdle pain
  • Lower back pain and general back pain
  • Abdominal diastasis
  • Poor blood circulation and haemorrhoids
  • Heavy legs
  • Shortness of breath

Following the assessment, they will create a bespoke prenatal treatment and exercise programme for you, based on your abilities and goals you want to achieve.

Apart from alleviating the symptoms of existing conditions, Physiotherapy and osteopathy can also help you prepare for smoother and less painful delivery and faster recovery. Pelvic floor exercises associated with breathing exercises help you to prepare, stretch and be aware of your pelvic muscles and perineum muscles for a less painful and gentler delivery. Learning to control these muscles in an efficient manner will help you avoid:

  • Incontinence
  • Episiotomy and tear
  • Diastasis
  • Posture issues

Our London Physiotherapist and Osteopath will teach you pelvic floor exercises and breathing during the sessions and will guide you through exercises you can perform in between sessions on your own.

Excellence Physiotherapy offers prenatal care at either at home anywhere in London so you don’t have to travel to us while being pregnant or at one of the two Light Centre practices: Belgravia near Victoria station, or London Wall near Moorgate station, in the heart of the City.

Our physiotherapy and osteopathy treatments are covered by most health insurances and are Bupa registered & recognised (BUPA Global and BUPA UK), Axa registered & recognised (AXA International, AXA ppp), Cigna registered & recognised and WPA registered & recognised
