Post-operative physiotherapy rehabilitation in London
Treatment after surgery at home or at the practice
Following surgery, the operated area will usually be red, swollen and can be very painful. This is a normal reaction to the incisions and procedures used by surgeons. When the symptoms subside, the healing process starts; there’s a gradual return to the normal functioning of tissues which can be enhanced by post surgery physiotherapy treatment.
At Excellence Physiotherapy London, we offer specialised rehabilitation treatment following surgery in the comfort of your own home. We work closely with a number of top Consultants from London and receive a high number of referrals for post-operative rehabilitation. Our London physiotherapists are all highly skilled in post-operative rehabilitation and will work very closely with the referring surgeons to tailor a comprehensive, individual treatment plan for each patient – based on their current strength, flexibility and stage of recovery – ensuring successful recovery. Our Physiotherapy treatment can be carried at home in London for those patients who don’t wish or can’t travel, or at either of the two Light Centre practices: London Wall near Moorgate station, in the heart of the City, or Belgravia, near Victoria station.
If you are an Axa or Bupa patient, you cannot book online. Please call our office with your authorisation number.
If you cannot find an appointment which suits you or would like a home visit, call us or send us a message: we will do our best to find you a slot.
Our London physiotherapists treat a wide range of post-operative conditions including:
- Knee and hip replacement
- Knee and hip surgery
- Foot and ankle surgery
- Shoulder and upper limb surgery
- Spinal surgery
Our London physiotherapist will develop the individual training program based on the patient’s condition. The treatment will focus on five important areas:
- Reducing pain and oedema as much as possible using massage, manual lymphatic drainage and cold therapy
- Increasing joint mobility by using passive then active mobilisation
- Regaining joint, muscle and tendon flexibility
- Retraining the muscles in order help stabilise the affected joint
- Regaining joint proprioception by retraining the sensitive receptors in the joints to avoid any future injury
Apart from working on your rehabilitation program, our London physiotherapist will also teach you how to adjust daily activities in order to prevent any future injury. All this will aid a speedy recovery, increase mobility and strength as well as boost confidence in using the affected joints on a daily basis. Depending on the type of operation and how the patient’s body responds, the length of the physiotherapy treatment may differ.
We are covered by most health insurances and are Bupa recognised and axa ppp recognised
